F.A.Q.
Where can I park?
There is a parking lot at 85 Oak Knoll Drive, close to where we will be practicing, but there is a $3.00 per hour fee. There is free street parking.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing. No fancy yoga outfits needed! If you are joining the hike afterward, be sure to bring appropriate footwear. (Yoga is normally practiced barefoot.)
Sunscreen is always a good thing to wear, and maybe bug spray too.
What should I bring?
For yoga, all you really need is a mat and water. Dollarama sells yoga mats now!
If you want to bring blocks, a strap, or something to cushion your knees, that's cool too.
If you are joining the hike, you will need sensible shoes, and a snack. We will have a short break in between yoga and the hike, so you can use the washroom, have some nourishment, and put your yoga mat in your car.
If you will not have a vehicle, and intend to bring your mat & belongings on the hike, please consider how you will be carrying them. Optional to bring: bug spray, binoculars, hat, etc.
What if it's raining?
Unfortunately, if the weather doesn't cooperate, we will not be practicing. This webpage will be updated if the class is cancelled!
Also you could call/text Laura Grace anytime (905) 920-6164
What will the yoga be like?
Each class will be a mixture, of standing, seated and lie-down poses. While each class has a theme, there are some areas that we give love to in every class: the 6 movements of the spine, the major muscles of the legs, the booty, and the core.
These classes are on the gentle side, so have no fear.
Yoga shouldn't hurt. If you feel any sharp pain, always ease out of the pose and explore what feels best for your body. This is your time to explore & play. If your body is asking you to rest, please listen. This is a no-judgement space. We don't judge each other, or ourselves.
What does it cost?
Donations will help keep 'Healing in the Hammer' running. Classes will be on a pay-what-you-can basis. If you are able to make a donation, you could bring cash to the event or e-transfer HealingintheHammer@gmail.com.
(Smiles or hugs also warmly accepted)
Do I need to register?
Nope, you can just drop by! If it's your first time, please arrive a little early to fill out our waiver. Or you can save time by doing that online HERE.
About Your Guide
Hi, I'm Laura Grace 🤟
I started practicing yoga in 2017. I was working as a dishwasher and needed relief from relentless back, neck, and shoulder pain. I was amazed how a little gentle yoga on a regular basis took all that pain away.
When I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, Graves' Disease, yoga helped me work against it to build muscles, lower inflammation, and keep the added weight from my thyroid medication at bay. That's when I became a true lifer.
When I was battling addictions, yoga got me through withdrawals.
It changed the way I move, took me from clumsy to graceful, helped my self esteem, and improved my posture. It eased my stress and taught me to stop jerking my body around.
When I'm in a bad mood - yoga. When I'm bloated - yoga. You get it.
All the feel-goodness that yoga brings me, is why I'm excited to share it!
I am not one of those super-pretzelly, head-standy yogis. My style is fun, easy going, playful, and healing.
I was never a dancer or athlete, I messed up my feet as a teenager, and balance is something that forever challenges me. But I have had a consistent practice for several years and received a lifetime of blessings that I believe anyone could benefit from. Yoga is for everyone.
I got my 200hr yoga teacher certification though an in-studio program recognized by the Yoga Alliance so that I can safely share the gift with others.
And hiking is something I've always loved. My sister, Lisa Marie, and I were Girl Guide Leaders for 5 years. It was a blast. You might get to meet her at one of our events! We love getting active together.
Let me know if you have any comments or questions. I can't wait to meet you!
